I can spend hours battling them then go to bed and still fall into a nice, peaceful sleep.Įven the marker, an otherworldly monument that raises the dead and alters the minds of anyone exposed to it, doesn't scare me. On paper the idea of them sounds pretty disturbing, a life (death?) cycle that borders on necromancy, as one reanimated corpse gives birth to another, each twisted into a different function but they're too inhuman, too alien in their altered biology, to be genuinely unsettling. It's so absurdly morbid that I can only laugh. I have gleefully lost many hours to the remake, running around a spooky spacecraft, because I never get tired of deploying a levitating buzz saw and whittling down my foes, one limb at a time. Perhaps more importantly, they are fun to fight. They're undeniably gross, especially upon close examination in the remake where you can really see the disgusting transformation they've undergone. Dead Space's zombies, called necromorphs, are a monster I don't find scary.
